Information for Renewing Applicants
All Bicycle Friendly America award designations (Bronze or higher) must be renewed every four years. (An award granted in 2016 should be renewed before the final deadline in 2020. Find a complete list of upcoming deadlines for Bicycle Friendly Communities, Businesses and Universities.)
If your community/business/school has made significant improvements and would like to reapply to the program early to try to move up in award levels, existing awardees are welcome to reapply earlier than four years, to be considered for a higher award level designation sooner.
Currently, both new and renewing applicants must fill out the same application regardless of renewal status.
SCHEDULED & EARLY RENEWALS
If your previous application was submitted through our current online application system (anytime after April 2016), we now have the capability to copy over answers from previous submissions into a new form in the current round.
The BFA team is still testing out this capability but it is available to any renewing applicant from April 2016 or later. We encourage any returning applicants who wish to take advantage of this option to email bfa@bikeleague.org to learn more before you begin your renewal application.
If you need to update the username affiliated with a previous application, or to transfer a previous online application to another existing user, please email bfa@bikeleague.org for assistance.
RETURNING APPLICANTS WHO PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED HONORABLE MENTION OR NO AWARD
If your community/business/school received Honorable Mention status or no designation at all, we encourage you to make as many improvements, particularly those recommended in your Feedback Report, as possible before re-applying for a higher designation.
Bicycle Friendly Business & University applicants who received Honorable Mention or no designation are eligible for discounts on their next BFB/BFU application submission. Please reference your Feedback Report for the discount code, or email bfa@bikeleague.org for more information.
RETURNING APPLICANTS FROM 2015 OR EARLIER:
The Bicycle Friendly America program moved to a new online application system in April 2016. If you last applied to the Bicycle Friendly America program before April 2016, you will need to create a new account to submit your renewal application.
